Lovingly referred to as 'Restoration 78', this X-1/9 had been off the road since 1987. It had mostly been with the original owner who had the head gasket done early in that year, only to have parked it a number of months later. I acquired it needing another head job, indicating the P.O. had never gone in for the re-torque. So, in my ownership the car had the head decked on both sides, half the valves replaced due to wear, and all the valves adjusted by Cylinder Head Service in Minneapolis. I replaced the exhaust manifold with a 4 into 1 from Midwest Bayless, a Gear Reduction Started, new alternator, electronic distributor ignition, plugs and wires, a larger Weber Carb, Timing and accessory belts, brakes, both master cylinders, slave cylinder, steering rack coupler, cooling hoses, door and top seals and more. Dealer optioned Dan Gurney Racing Wheels with new Vredestein tires mounted. Euro styled bumpers have been installed, however the original ladders come with the car, as does a number of original parts including the functioning carb and distributor, etc... The car is amazingly mostly rust free with the worst problem areas having been addressed - namely a repaired battery box, and removed rear trunk sub-floor. The carpet has been replaced. The seats have period style covers. All gauges and lights work - stereo currently does not. All glass is good. I refer to this car as a better, but slower Lotus Esprit. It handles magically, is solid and rattle free, has great visibility and is comfortable. This is an extremely solid example with the heavy work having been completed. Receipts go with the car to the tune of Thousands of $$...Selling to finish the refurbishment of another long stranded FIAT.
